A La Playa (To The Beach)

2020, 72" x 48" (182.88 x 121.92 cm), Acrylic, gesso, soft pastel and oil stick on raw cotton, mounted on aluminum stretchers 

Inspired by a trip to Tulum, Mexico in early 2020, this painting developed slowly over a four-month period. The final result is a multi-layered surface with rich textures, flowing forms, and vibrant colors which reference the raw side of Tulum, nature, and the happiness of being out by the sea on a sunny, warm day. Such is life in the tropics. 

References that come to mind: Inspired by Tulum, the white sands at the beach, Latin American colors, warm weather, knitted hammocks, sun light, water, undercurrents, the dawn swimming in the ocean.
