This is one of the studies Gabriela Gil made to experiment different techniques prior to working on the last three paintings of the Siamese series. In this particular piece, she relied entirely on paint to create texture, space, and light. This marked the first time she removed metal from the fish, and it was during this piece that she developed the patching technique she would later carry on to future pieces.
